Organics for you

       Newsletter Issue # 69

April 27, 2006

Shopping with great expectations

So, you're in your local produce market (the organic section, of course) and, lo and behold, you get a glimpse of the first organic "warm weather" fruit.

The fruit looks really tempting, especially since you need a quick pick-me-up after riding your bike to the market because you can't afford a tank of gas this week.

You've been waiting all winter for your favorite melons to reappear and finally you see them and you buy them and you take them home and you carefully slice a melon and you bite into it and ...

Wait a minute, you say.  I remember these melons tasting much better last year.  What's goin' on?

Welcome to this week's Shopping Tip, called Great Expectations, from Goodness Greeness.  Expectations are wonderful things.  You can build them without a mortgage or a permit.  You can manage them without an MBA.  But you can dash them by buying summer fruit too early.

We'd like to help you manage your expectations (no, we don't have MBA's either) for great tasting summer fruit by giving you our Great Expectations Organic Shopping Schedule.

This schedule gives you exclusive access to the inside info on when the new organic summer fruit from Goodness Greeness should be at peak flavor.

Organic veggies of the week

We've also got a great veggie treat for you this week.  The season's first organic Vidalia onions are in and they are soooooo juicy and sweet.  They're great in salads and sandwiches or mixed in with your scrambled eggs.

And if you are in Vidalia, Georgia this weekend, you can attend the Annual Vidalia Onion Festival.

If not, you'll have to settle for these mouth-watering Vidalia onion recipes.

Speaking of onions, have you tried our new bunched spring onions?  They are packaged in bunches, with the tops still on.  You can use the tops the same way that you use scallions, although the flavor may be a bit stronger.

Recipes

So now you say "thanks, that takes care of my shopping plans for fruit for the next month, but what am I serving my family for dinner tonight?"

Sorry, we can't help you with dinner tonight - the boss has us all busy getting ready for the All Things Organic trade show in Chicago next weekend.

So you're on your own tonight, but we will get back to sharing our favorite recipes with you in next week's "Organics for you" newsletter.

In the meantime, have a great week!
